More details
Departure from the center of Baunei at 4.30pm.
After passing the breathtaking bends of the initial stretch of the road to Golgo, the first stop is on a panoramic terrace from where you can admire the town of Baunei from above and the entire valley below, sweeping with your gaze from the Gulf of Arbatax up to to the peaks of Gennargentu.
The journey continues along the "Bia Maore" (the "main road"), which goes slightly downhill through the holm oak woods and the dense Mediterranean scrub up to the heart of the plateau, where the second stop is made, near the basaltic pools called “As Piscinas”.
Once you have admired these precious water reserves up close, very useful in a plateau where water resources are scarce, you move towards "Su Sterru", the spectacular 295 meter deep karst chasm that has contributed to making the Golgo plateau famous.
Next destination: the nearby country church dedicated to St. Peter, to discover an evocative site, to which the people of Baunei are deeply attached, since St. Peter himself, according to ancient legend, freed the plateau from the oppression of a terrible monster (“Sa Serpente”), who persecuted shepherds and farmers.
At the end of a short walk, we set off again towards the fifth stop of the guided tour, dedicated to the ancient shepherd's huts of the Supramonte and to the stories of the most significant moments in the life of the shepherds who have frequented these mountains for hundres of years. The visit ends with a visit to the mysterious "Rock Face", a bizarre result of the erosive action of atmospheric agents hidden in a vertical wall, which can be reached thanks to the existence of an ancient juniper staircase made by shepherds.
